Step 6: Line Terminators 1) The metal tie wire requires no special terminators or tensioners because it should not be put under much tension and you can terminate it by twisting it around itself. However, when a “run” of nylon line (either at the top or through the middle of the deer fence) extends 300 feet, reaches a corner, or reaches a gate, you need to terminate this run and start a new one. Plan on using two terminators for each run of line. 2) The nylon monofilament (both 8 and 11 gauge) can be terminated with U-bolt cable clamps (items 16-08 or 16-081), oval metal sleeves (items 16-07 or 16-071), or gripples (items 16-03, 16-03A, 16-05, 16-05A, or 16-05B). 2a) If you are using U-bolt cable clamps, which are inexpensive and come in packs of 10, you will need one circular wire tensioner (item 16-09) for each “run” of line in addition to the two cable clamps, and should also get one handle tool (item 16-10) for tightening the circular wire tensioners. 2b) If you are using oval metal sleeves (also inexpensive and also sold in packs of 10) you will need one circular wire tensioner (item 16-09) for each run of line in addition to the two sleeves, and you will also need a special crimping tool (item 16-06) as well as the handle tool (item 16-10). 2c) If you are using gripples you do NOT need any circular wire tensioners or handle tool, but you do need a gripple tensioning tool (item 16-04). In general, the gripples provide the most elegant but also the most expensive solution, while the U-bolt cable clamps are the least expensive choice. 3) Calculate the number of terminators you will need (two per run) adding any circular wire tensioners (one per run) and special tools that you may need, and enter these in the table below. |
