Step 2: Deer Fence Posts
1) Determine the kind(s) of deer fence posts to use. We offer 9 or 10-foot angle-iron posts (items 15-01 and 15-02B30), 9 or 10-foot round metal posts without drive sleeves (items 15-03K, 15-03K1, 15-03L, and 15-03M), and round metal posts with drive sleeves for 7-foot deer fences (item 15-03E). Other choices are trees (the best posts if available) and 10-foot wooden posts (pressure-treated 4x4s obtained locally or 5/6-inch rounds). For more information about how to choose your posts, click here. 2) Decide how many posts you need. If you are using any kind of popypropylene deer fencing, figure on 20 feet between posts; if you are using metal hexagrid deer fencing, figure on 15 feet between posts. Divide the length of your deer fence by 15 or 20 feet and subtract the number of wooden posts or trees being used to get the total number of metal posts needed. Locate your chosen type of metal post in the table below; divide the number of metal posts needed by the number of posts in a bundle; round up to the nearest whole number; and enter this number (the number of bundles needed) into the appropriate box in the table. |
